Equine Red Light Therapy | Photizo for Horses

Equine red + near-infrared light therapy

Light therapy, from poll to hoof.

Targeted when you need it. Broader when you don't.

A horse doesn't have just one area to care for.

Photizo gives you three ways to bring red and near-infrared light into your horse's routine: a handheld for precise areas, flexible pads for broader hands-free coverage, and a blanket for the largest areas.

Use one on its own, or combine them into a system that works around your horse.

The range

One horse. Three ways to use light.

The right format depends on the area you want to cover. Photizo lets you go from one precise point to a much larger area without trying to make one device do every job.

Where Photizo fits into equine care

From an older horse that is beginning to feel stiffer to an active horse coming back from injury, Photizo can be used as part of a wider care and recovery routine.

It is designed to sit alongside appropriate veterinary, physiotherapy and rehabilitation care, not replace it.

Joints & stiffness

For localised areas of joint discomfort, stiffness and age-related changes where targeted light can be incorporated into the horse's ongoing care routine.

Tendons & ligaments

For diagnosed tendon, ligament and other soft-tissue injuries as part of the rehabilitation plan recommended for your horse. The handheld allows precise point-by-point use, while a flexible pad can cover a broader section hands-free.

Post-work recovery

Wounds & skin

For localised wounds and skin areas as part of the wider care plan, with the handheld allowing precise placement around a defined area. For significant, infected or unexplained wounds, veterinary assessment comes first.

Post-operation recovery

Photizo can be incorporated into the recovery routine following veterinary procedures where your vet is happy for light therapy to be used.

Why the formats differ

Targeted or broad? You don't have to choose one.

A handheld and a pad are not two versions of the same product. They do different jobs.

Use the handheld when you want precision. Use a pad when you want to cover a larger area without standing and moving the device point by point. Use the blanket when the area you want to cover is larger again.

And when your horse needs different types of coverage in different places, combine them. That is why we created the Photizo systems.

The science

The light behind Photizo

Red + near-infrared. Two wavelengths. Different depths.

Photobiomodulation uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to produce biological effects in illuminated tissue.

It has been studied for decades across human and veterinary medicine, including research into musculoskeletal conditions, pain, tissue recovery and wound healing. Evidence varies by condition and treatment protocol, which is why we believe in showing the research rather than making promises it cannot support.

Every Photizo format on this page combines red and near-infrared light, although the exact red wavelength differs by device.

Horse owners ask us

Do I need to clip my horse?

No. The Vetcare handheld can be used on a clean, dry coat. Place the treatment head flat against the area so the device is positioned correctly. There is no need to clip the horse simply to use Photizo.

How long does the handheld take?

One press starts one 31-second programmed cycle. Once it finishes, move to the next point and continue across the area according to the instructions supplied with your device.

What is the difference between the Small and Large Pad?

The Small Pad is designed for more compact areas such as legs and joints. The Large Pad covers considerably more surface area, making it better suited to backs, shoulders and larger muscle groups. Both strap into place and operate hands-free.

Should I choose the Standard or Silent Vetcare?

The device itself is the same. The Standard Vetcare has the normal start-up sound. The Silent Vetcare removes the start-up beep, which can make it a better option for horses or other animals that are particularly sensitive to sound.

Do I need the handheld and a pad?

Not necessarily. If most of what you want to work on is small and targeted, the handheld may be all you need. If you regularly want to cover larger areas, a pad saves you from having to work point by point across the entire area. Many owners combine the two because they serve different purposes.

When would I choose the blanket?

The blanket makes most sense when you want broad coverage across a large part of the body rather than a small, defined area. If your main concern is one leg, joint or localised spot, start with the handheld or a pad instead.

Can Photizo replace my vet or physio?

No. Photizo is designed to be used as part of the wider care routine. Diagnosis, medication, rehabilitation programmes and other treatment recommended by your vet or equine professional should not be stopped or changed because you are using light therapy.

What if I don't know what is causing the problem?

Get it assessed first. A change in movement, swelling, heat, persistent soreness or unexplained lameness can have many different causes. Knowing what you are dealing with matters before deciding how Photizo fits into the care plan.

Can I use Photizo at the yard?

Yes. The Vetcare handheld is portable and rechargeable, making it straightforward to use at home or around the yard. The different formats are designed to make regular use practical rather than something that requires a clinic visit every time.

Still not sure which one I need?

Tell us what area you want to cover and how you expect to use it. We can talk you through the differences between the handheld, Small Pad, Large Pad and blanket before you buy.

Give your routine the coverage it needs.

One precise point. A whole back. Or something in between.

Choose the Photizo format that works for your horse, or combine them into one flexible system.
